Relaxation For You

Discover the true meaning of relaxation.

Deep relaxation is the physical softening of the body that is accompanied by a sense of distancing and detachment from the problems and worries of everyday life. To achieve this physical softening, we will use techniques such as pranayama (breathwork), imagery, and visualization paired with a calm environment to gently engage the mind and allow the physical body to feel safe.

What to expect

– A calm atmosphere with low, warm lighting; potentially some light music such as nature sounds, white noise or specific frequencies for relaxation
– Class is done either lying on a yoga mat or sitting supported by a wall or chair
– Wear comfortable non-restrictive clothing with the option of layers to stay a comfortable temperature at all times
– Time at the start and end of class to “come back” so you’re never rushed

Why Now?

Now, more than ever, adding relaxation to your regular routine is a non-negotiable for every day life. However, scrolling, watching TV, reading or playing video games isn’t necessarily as relaxing one may think. “These forms of relaxation may have some beneficial effects, but they may not be able to produce the rejuvenating effects of a real deep relaxation.” (Devi, Nischala Joy. The Healing Path of Yoga.2000)

Deep relaxation is a practice known as pratyahara– withdrawal of the senses- and as such will restore your energy and leave you feeling rested. The withdrawal into self produces a state that teeters on the thin line between sleep and wakefulness, where the parasympathetic nervous system activates for real rejuvenation.

In world constantly vying for your attention and asking for more with less reward, deep relaxation is a way to let go and provide perspective on what is most important to you.

Deep Relaxation: relief you need to experience to believe.
